Remember that scene at the end of The Conversation where Gene Hackman’s character is seen digging up the floor of his apartment looking for the surreptitious microphone?
Well, earlier this year, a Tor developer did that with an inexpensive Android phone: https://people.torproject.org/~ioerror/skunkworks/moto_e/
Certainly a phone is brimming with sensors for a reason and we can’t depend on Google to be working in our interest all of the time. If someone can operate your PC’s webcam, they’re certainly interested in operating the mic and camera you carry with you everywhere.
And finally! A smartphone with a removable battery! I had thought those were gone for good.
